Here I am compiling a list of items to bring when participating in an autocross events. To be honest, as a complete newbie, I made the mistake during my first autocross session, I literally just turned up with my car. Over time, I started to see what others have brought and realised what would be good and useful.

  1. Foldable chair
    • Autocross events tend to take quite literally the whole day. This means a lot of waiting time between turns. It is good to have your own chair and a foldable camping one is easy to carry around. A tip is to get one that has a backing and not just a stool.
  2. A large insulated bottle of cold water
    • Make sure it has a lot of water in it, you will be under the sun or outdoors most of the time so having water to keep yourself hydrated is key
  3. Ice box with drinks like electrolytes and other refreshments you might fancy
    • This will help you have enough drinks, refreshments, coffee, red bull and more throughout the day. If you are bunking up with a friend/mate, you can share the drinks in there
  4. Foldable Canopy
    • Very useful to protect yourself against the sun
  5. Power bank
    • Your phone and devices will thank you as you might not have access to a power outlet
  6. Cameras/Video Cameras/Drones
    • You want to capture as many memorable moments through the day right?
  7. Umbrella
    • In case it rains or if you want to shade yourself from the sun especially during the course walk

  1. Small spray bottle and cloth
    • This is useful especially during these sort of events where the organizers might have lots of stickers and numbers for you to apply to your car. These could be the sponsor stickers as well as your registration number as well. It is good to have a spray bottle to spray and then wipe the area where you are applying the stickers.
  2. Car tyre pressure reader
    • Important to measure your tyres each round to see which works for you
  3. Electric car tyre pump
    • In case you need to increase the pressure of your tyres
  4. Tyre change kit
    • Always prepare for the worse
  5. Battery powered portable fan
    • Whilst waiting, it is cool to have a fan to keep you cool as well as blow away the mosquitos
  6. Comfortable shoes (not the ones you use for driving)
    • There will be a lot of walking, walking over to other encampments and walking over to check out the course as well as other driver’s runs. Having a spare set of comfortable shoes makes that little bit easier
  7. Electric scooter
    • Depending on the rules and regulations, having a scooter to traverse through the place does help but it also depends on the ground conditions
  8. Big hat
    • Protect you from the sun
  9. Sunblock
    • The obvious
  10. Helmet + long pants
    • Depending on the rules and regulations as well.
  11. Garbage bags
    • The site or location may not have readily available rubbish bags, it is good to have your own ones to store your own garbage which you can later dump at the communal rubbish bin.
  12. Work gloves
    • Changing those tyres and setting up the tent would be easier with work gloves and to protect your hands
  13. Mosquito repellent
  14. Microfibre cloths and wet sipes
