As I try to find more places in Klang Valley to savour some steaks, I came across a restaurant located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, at Changkat Bukit Bintang. I haven’t been to that part of town for the longest of times so we opted to use Grab as I clearly remember the traffic as well as the parking situation. The Steakhouse KL is located right on Changkat Bukit Bintang and if you do dine at the restaurant, they do have an arrangement and complimentary valet service (if you spend enough there).
Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was surprised that on a Friday night and the entire street being choked full of people partying the night away, the restaurant was completely empty (as you can see in the photos). This wasn’t a good sign as I would assume a place that serves good food would be packed. There was another table of four seated outside but by the time our food arrived, they had already left.
The menu was quite simple so we decided on a starter to share, a porterhouse for two and a side dish (french fries).
The one thing I like to always check as my first impressions is the quality of the bread that a restaurant serves. In this case, it came with a small cup of vegetable soup which was nice. What I didn’t like was that the bread was a little cold and a little hard. Not the soft warm welcome that I am used to.
Our starter arrived, a plate of mushroom and asparagus salad. My first thought was that they should just arrange them in a smaller plate because it look just sad to see 3 little pieces of asparagus separated away from the mushrooms. Looking closer at the mushrooms, we realised that it was canned button mushrooms. Again, second item that was quite dissapointing.
I was fairly surprised when they gave us a tray of different types of salt to use with the steak. My favourites were both the garlic salt and onion salt. One thing to note was that the taste of the salt was fairly strong so don’t use too much of it.
Finally the mains arrived which was supposed to be a porterhouse. They did cut the meat on one side but left the otherside for me to carve on my own. It came with garlic mashed potato and some grilled vegetables and a red wine reduction sauce (which we chose). The cook on the meat was good but it was lightly seasoned, I guess they allow guests to choose the amount since they did serve us with a tray of salt.
Conclusion
Overall, the food wasn’t extremely pricey and the price we paid for the porterhouse would probably just get us a steak outside. Again I was fairly surprised that it was empty for a Friday night so it is an option for those of you looking for a steak dinner whilst stuck in KL. Where they could have definitionly improved would be the warm bread as well as the mushroom and asparagus starter. I mean, don’t use mushrooms in a can and then charge me more than RM30 for it. Also reconsider the plating because it just looks damn sad.
