Alta Pizza in Bangsar

Let’s face it, there has been a proliferation of pizza joints in Klang Valley lately. Thanks to the success of PIzza Mansion, Pizza Dihyang, Round Pizza, Pizza Duo and many more. One of my mission is to really try them all. This time around, my journey has brought me to Alta Pizza, located in Bangsar.

The entrance to Alta Pizza

Getting to Alta Pizza

Mind you that parking can be a problem around there. You might need to park at one of the nearby parking lots and take a short walk. If it is raining, then you might have some trouble. The entrance is somewhat minimalistic. A small sign located below eye level makes one who is unobservant pass it without noticing. A stark contrast to the neon filled streets of Tokyo where every store is vying for your attention. There is a near LRT station as well, you can always head over to Bangsar LRT station and take a short walk over.

Food served at Alta Pizza

We chose a small appetizer, anchovies which doesn’t seem to be available in their current menu today. They must rotate it to keep things exciting. Also when I ordered them, I never realised them to be so small. Oh well, they were meant to be just a snack I guess but yeah, nothing really special about it. Frankly the tomatoes actually overpowered the taste of the anchovies themselves.

Moving on to the pizzas. In all honesty, I can’t remember them that much. There was one with meat and another that was four cheese. I wanted to top up the 4 cheese with honey (similar to how one would eat pizza at 3P in Vietnam) but somehow their honey came together with chilli flakes which unfortunately my son can’t take. I guess instead of calling it hot honey, it should be spicy honey.

Really nothing to shout about and if you were to ask me to go back there again, the hassle of parking, travelling there and looking at some of the pizza there, there isn’t anything that is really pulling me back to wanting to try out their other pizzas. I can’t seem to put my finger on it but at the top of mind, there wasn’t anything memorable about Alta Pizza.

That said, I have done a bit of research prior to eating there and I noticed that at Alta Pizza, their non-pizza menu tends to get better reviews. I mean, people were raving about the pasta and something about some animal’s cheek. Now that is what tickles my fancy.

What about the environment and service?

To be fair, I arrived early for dinner (6.30pm). I mean, who eats dinner so early right? Of course in my photos the place was gonna look empty. There was another couple dining there before us and whilst we were eating, another table came in whilst another couple ordered takeaway.

Service was just average, the only thing I remember being irked was when the honey arrived with chilli flakes, I asked if they could serve me just honey without chilli flakes and the staff were flabbergasted as if I had made a sinful request. I explained to them that the honey was for my son and his 4 cheese pizza and I wanted him to experience it with honey (in the menu it was called hot honey and I assumed it meant that the honey was served at a higher than room temperature). The staff just denied my request with the foreign workers trying to understand my request only for them to check with some superior at the kitchen (I can see it by the way as its not really hidden). What I was told that the honey comes like that and they can’t serve me honey without chilli flakes. Amazing, I never knew bees to go around collecting both honey from flowers as well as flakes from chilli plants around the world as well. I am truly out of touch with the world of bees ever since I enjoyed listening to Jerry Seinfeld be the lead character in Bee Movie.

Would I return?

I could perhaps in the near future. But I wouldn’t find myself craving to go back there. Not like the other pizza locations that I mentioned at the start of this article. I think there are just a dime too many around and I actually crave for something unique and different. Perhaps if my curiousity about their pasta dishes as well as their desert menu are too strong, I might drop by again. Or perhaps, a place to bring my team to have some pizza, away from our usual food at Midvalley.
